I am a mature student originally from the Netherlands but I have lived in Ireland for the past 26 years. In my work I investigate how images affect us and our memory, and the present overload of pictures in our lives. I work from an archive of old family photographs and look for moments that are in between, images that typically would not make it to an album or be shared on social media. Working with these images brings up the question how our relationship with pictures has changed, through painting these moments they take on a new life. During the painting process I rather remove paint than adding layer, to reveal and rediscover a picture. I also work with short videos, in which I try to capture stillness in movement, and compare this with the painted image on a screen.
